Travelling with Kids Made Easy: 5 Simple Tips for Motorcyclists

Updated: Apr 27, 2021

Taking your kids on a road trip is perhaps the most challenging thing for any parent. In the middle of taking care and keeping the kid happy the journey no longer remains fun. Thankfully, there are some simple hacks that can salvage the trip and help you make the best out the trip and also give your child a journey worth remembering. And to make things more fun, we are going to suggest you take the motorcycle.

WARNING: Before we proceed, make sure that you are staying within the law. In some places, a child below the age of 8 is not permitted to be on a motorcycle. Some states require the pillion rider to be at least 4 feet tall to be able to reach the foot pegs. With that out of the way, lets focus on how to make the trip fun!

Involve them in the planning process

The basis of fun is to keep your child engaged and invested in the process, rather than making him or her feel like being an unwilling participant in the process. In order for that to happen, they need to know what you are about to do. While planning the journey involve your kid in every small thing. Have them pick the best route they want, discuss where you should be stopping for breaks and what you are going to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Once they become interested and engaged in the process, you can expect them to stay entertained without pestering your constantly. Make small calculations on the fuel expenses and accommodation – which will be a great learning experience for them in the long run. All of these small activities can add to the fun and given them a reason to look forward to the ride.

Give them a fun responsibility

Give you kid a fun responsibility to take care of. It could be something as simple as snaping photos on the mobile phone, or keeping count of the cities and towns you pass. These is a great way of keeping the young and curious mind engaged and active in the process thereby eliminating the chance of boredom setting in. Children have very limited patience and monotony can set in rather quickly, so the best way to avoid that from happening is to keep their young minds engaged. Another simple way of keeping your kid engaged on the trip is to affix a sports action video camera on the top of the helmet and let the footage roll! While we are on the topic of safest branded premium helmets , look for best quality premium brand-new helmets that come exclusively in kid sizes instead of compromising with one of your old helmets.

Take the scenic route

Do you have different ways to reach the destination? If that is the case, take the more scenic route. That way even if it is a little longer than the usual road, you will have a lot of visual interests to keep the kid interested and engaged. Avoid the fast route unless it is really fast and saves a lot of time to the destination. Select the route with a focus on fun and keep as many as fun stoppages as you can plan in between.

Prioritize fun

Instead of focusing on reaching the destination as fast as possible, try to make the journey as fun as possible. When you are riding alone you can set your eyes on reaching the destination as fast as possible and covering more distance efficiently, but when you are with a kid, your priority should be on keeping them happy and entertained. Do not ignore the fact that being a passive rider (one who is not riding) is rather boring even for an adult, but for a child, the task becomes even more challenging.

Short rides, more breaks

Don’t make your ride legs longer than what your child can endure. A maximum of 100 kilometer is the maximum a child can go without becoming antsy and impatient. So, make sure to break the ride up in such a way that you can stop for a change in scenery. So, you need to plan the route in such a way that the ride continues to be fun, less tiring and more fun!
